The county says it is removing numerous trees at the Panaewa Equestrian Center because of safety hazards.
The work is expected to take a week, said Jason Armstrong, Department of Parks and Recreation public information officer.
Armstrong said tree trimming through the years compromised the health of the trees, causing weak branches to fall on bleachers and the roof of the horse stables. Roots also caused the pavement to break up, creating a tripping concern, Armstrong said. He said the county must address the public safety issues. He was unsure how many trees are affected.
The county plans to turn the trees into mulch, which will be used at county facilities, and new trees and vegetation will be planted. For more information, call Armstrong at 345-9105.
